Several free resources cover older Revere death records. For recent deaths, a formal request through the city clerk or RVRS is required. Here is what each period offers online.

FamilySearch provides free access to many Massachusetts vital records through their Massachusetts Vital Records guide. Revere deaths from the late 1800s through the early 1900s may appear in searchable indexes on the platform. A free account allows you to view images and save search results.

For Revere deaths from 1841 through 1924, the State Archives offers free digital images at the vital records collection page. Browse by town and year without paying any fee. Revere was established in 1871, so the earliest entries in the State Archives collection will reflect that founding date.

The State Archives at 220 Morrissey Boulevard covers 1841 through 1925, with certified copies at $3 each. For deaths from 1926 to the present, the RVRS in Dorchester holds the statewide copy. Phone: 617-740-2600, email: vital.recordsrequest@mass.gov, hours: Monday through Friday, 8:45 AM to 4:45 PM.

Note: Revere was incorporated in 1871 as North Chelsea before being renamed Revere in 1887, so pre-1887 records may be indexed under North Chelsea rather than Revere in some databases.

Revere Historical Death Records

Revere was originally part of Chelsea and was incorporated as the town of North Chelsea in 1871. The town was renamed Revere in 1887 in honor of Paul Revere. The city clerk's office maintains records from the late 1800s through the present, which covers the full span of Revere's independent existence as a municipality.

For deaths recorded before Revere's incorporation, researchers may find relevant records in Chelsea or Boston collections at the State Archives. The State Archives at 220 Morrissey Boulevard in Boston holds records going back to 1841 and earlier for some towns in the region. Deaths occurring before 1841 in what is now Revere would have been recorded under Chelsea.

The Revere Public Library at 179 Beach Street has a local history collection with materials related to Revere's community history. For death-related research, the library may have city directories, newspaper obituaries, and town reports that can supplement official death certificates.

Suffolk County Probate and Family Court at 24 New Chardon Street in Boston, MA 02114 handles probate for Suffolk County, which includes Revere. Probate files may contain supplemental information about Revere deaths, including wills, inventories, and estate documents.

Note: Researchers looking for Revere deaths from before 1871 should search Chelsea vital records at the State Archives, since Revere did not exist as a separate municipality before that year.

What Revere Death Certificates Contain

A Revere death certificate follows the standard Massachusetts state form. It records the decedent's full legal name, date of birth, date of death, and the specific location in Revere where the death occurred. Cause of death is listed as certified by the attending physician or medical examiner.

The manner of death is classified as natural, accident, homicide, or suicide. Additional fields capture the decedent's occupation, Social Security number, and both parents' names with the mother's maiden name listed separately.
